2024 Sarracenia Seed Mixes
A list of 2024 Seed Mixes and their contents.
These seed blends were put together from 1200+ crosses done at Fox Leaf Farm this year.
Our approach to producing Sarracenia seed starts with our deep understanding of the thousands of plants in our collection,
both for cut production and for horticulture use. We cover thousands of flowers before they open and practice very strict
pollination protocols when producing seed in spring. Once seed pods are ripened, we carefully process each pod.
We have a very limited individual seed packet seed sale for horticulture growers, and after reserving our potion of each seed pod we are going
to sow for ourselves, we then begin the seed blending process. After reviewing seed yields and results, we then select a portion of specific
crosses to utilize in our blends.
Each blend has a specific target production for color, size, form etc, and considerable time is devoted to planning what goes into each mix. We only utilize seed from any individual pod in
one blend. We produce these seed blends for our farm to both search for new color forms, but also to
produce consistent results when sowing a blend to expand our cut benches. Sarracenia breeding can still have unexpected results, and very few
sarracenia breed true to color. Our blending process attempts to mitigate the unknown and give a higher percentage
chance of obtaining the results we want and what is outlined for each blend.
These blends are our best attempt at the promised colors, and the photo is just a representative of what we believe the seed blend should yield as adult pitchers.
Expect to cull seedlings for color, especially within the pink and yellow targeted blends to obtain the blend specific colors.
